Dimethylsilyl enolates and α-dimethylsilyl esters reacted with aldehydes in N, N- dimethylformamide without an activator to give aldol adducts in moderate to good yields. Under the same conditions, the corresponding trimethylsilyl derivatives exhibited lower reactivities toward the aldol reaction.
