The Peterson olefination is the cumulative reaction of an a-silyl carbanion with a carbonyl compound to form a, &hydroxy silane, followed by elimination to yield the corresponding alkene.'The convergent formation of carbon-carbon double bonds is a reaction of fundamental importance in synthetic organic chemistry.
