Results The starting ketones 1-3 were easily prepared by treating the. unsubstituted diones with arenesulfonyl chloride in the presence of a base. The absorption spectra of these enones can be considered to be the superposition of the spectra of the corresponding enone and the arenesulfonyl chromophores.
