In a preceding article, z the reactions of various carbonyl compounds to form nitrogen heterocycles with acetic acid and ammonium acetate were correlated and reviewed. It can be shown by indirect means that the active form of ammonium acetate in such multiple condensations is the free ammonia base. 3
