Biological Activity

[Description]:

Galactofucan (Fucogalactan) is a sulfated polysaccharide. Galactofucan can be extracted from brown seaweed Saccharina longicruris with anticoagulant, anti-tumor, anti-thrombosis, anti-inflammatory and antiviral properties. Galactofucan shows antiviral activities to HSV-1 and HSV-2 with IC50s of 0.76 and 1.34 µg/mL, respectively. Galactofucan can be used for the research of cancer and inflammation[1][2].

[Target]

HSV-1:0.76 μg/mL (IC50)

HSV-2:1.34 μg/mL (IC50)

[In Vitro]

Galactofucan (0-100 µg/mL; 48 h) shows antiviral activities towards HSV-1 and HSV-2 with IC50s of 0.76 and 1.34 µg/mL, respectively[1].

[In Vivo]

Galactofucan (10-100 mg/kg; i.p. once) (extracted from Agaricus bisporus) shows anti-inflammatory activity[2]. Animal Model: Male Swiss mice with acetic acid intraperitoneal injection[2] Dosage: 10, 30 and 100 mg/kg Administration: Intraperitoneal injection; 10-100 mg/kg once Result: Repressed acetic acid-induced abdominal constriction, inhibited leukocytes migration and peritoneal capillary permeability.
