Biological Activity

[Description]:

Manganese(salen) chloride (EUK-8), a superoxide dismutase and catalase mimetic, is an antioxidant with oxyradical scavenging properties. Manganese(salen) chloride ameliorates acute lung injury in endotoxemic swine[1][2].

[In Vitro]

Manganese(salen) chloride (25 μM; 24-72 h) protects organotypic hippocampal slices from β-AP-induced neurotoxicity, and completely blocks β-AP-induced free radical accumulation and lipid peroxidation[2].

[In Vivo]

Manganese(salen) chloride (25 mg/kg; i.p. 3 times a week for 4 weeks) reduces cardiac oxidative stress and ameliorates pressure overload-induced heart failure in the harlequin mouse mutant[3]. Animal Model: Wild-type (WT) and harlequin (Hq) B6CBA male and female mice[3] Dosage: 25 mg/kg/day Administration: I.p. 3 times a week for 4 weeks Result: Prevented myocardial oxidant damage provoked by biomechanical stress. Improved survival following biomechanical stress. Prevented functional and geometrical deterioration in response to pressure overload. Attenuated necrotic and apoptotic cell death, and attenuated cardiac hypertrophy and fibrosis.

Asymmetric epoxidation of unfunctionalized alkenes catalyzed by sugar moiety-modified chiral salen-Mn(III) complexes.

Carbohydr. Res. 344(1) , 61-6, (2009)

Several chiral Schiff-base ligands with sugar moieties at C-3 (3') or C-5 (5') of salicylaldehyde were synthesized from reaction of salicylaldehyde derivatives with diamine. These ligands coordinated ...

Fluorimetric study of the pro-oxidant activity of EUK8 in the presence of hydrogen peroxide.

Biometals 21(4) , 425-32, (2008)

The catalase mimetic complex Mn(III)-salen chloride (EUK8) was found to be pro-oxidant under low hydrogen peroxide concentrations. The increase in the fluorescence rate of the probe 1,2,3-dihydrorhoda...

Role of superoxide dismutase enzymes and ascorbate in protection of nitrergic relaxation against superoxide anions in mouse duodenum.

Acta Pharmacol. Sin. 29(6) , 687-97, (2008)

The aim of this study was to investigate whether superoxide dismutase (SOD) enzymes and ascorbate play a role in the protection of the nitrergic relaxation against superoxide anion inhibition in the m...
