Abstract
Other anionic reagents, with few exceptions, have not been studied. Concentrated aqueous ammonia converts ethyl trichloroacetate to trichloroacetamide in poor yields2 The fact that no chloroform was reported is somewhat surprising since the trichloromethyl group would be expected to cleave very readily.
