Abstract
Summary The action of aqueous hydrochloric acid on divinylacetylene yields a dihydrochloride. The compound is oxidized by permanganate with the formation of acetic acid and chloroacetic acid, and this fact together with a consideration of the probable mechanism of its formation, indicates that it has the structure dichloro-1, 3-hexadiene-2, 4 and that it results from two successive acts of 1, 4 addition.
