Abstract

Method B.-A mixture of 4.4 g. of l-phenyl-3-amino-5-pyrazolone, 4 ml. of ethyl acetoacetate and 50 ml. of ethanol, in which was dissolved 0.5 g. of sodium, was heated under reflux and stirred for 1 hour. The reaction mixture, which contained a cream-colored precipitate, was cooled, diluted with ether and filtered. The collected solid was dissolved in 50 ml. of water and the pH adjusted to 4-5 with acetic acid. Filtration then yielded 3.4 g.(56%) of a ...
