Abstract: The results of a study of the question of kinetic or thermodynamic control of the addition of carbon nucleophiles to (arene) Cr (C0) 3 complexes are presented. 2-Lithio-2- methylpropionitrile (1) is shown to add reversibly to (r~ aphthalene) Cr (CO)~(2),(5, 8- dimetho~ ynaphthaIene) Cr (CO)~(5),(ani~ ole) Cr (CO)~(12), and (tert-b~ tylbenzene) Cr (CO)~(15).
