Abstract α-Methylthio-propiophenone anti-oxime p-toluenesulfonate (tosylate)(12b) fragments quantitatively in 80% ethanol yielding benzonitrile and a methylidenesulfonium ion 15. The syn-isomer, however, undergoes a Beckmann rearrangement. The
