Abstract
The utilization of the hydroxide ion under phasetransfer-catalysis conditions (“PTC/OH-”) has been applied to a wide range of useful base-catalyzed organic reactions.'Diarylmethanes have been oxidized to benzophenones by oxygen under PTC/OH-conditions. 2 The catalysts used were “ac~ essible”~ quaternary ammonium (“quat”) salts, containing two or more ethyl groups.
