Abstract

New, mild methods were needed to oxidize methyl ketones and related systems regiospecifically. The conversion of methyl ketones into carboxylic acids with one less carbon has been historically accomplished with hypohalites in alkaline media; 14 sodium hypochlorite and hypobromite are the most common reagents utilized.
