Abstract: 1-Phenyl-and 1-p-fluorophenyl-2, 3, 3-trihalocyclopropenes have been synthesized from tetrachloro-and tetrabromocyclopropene. The aryltrihalocyclopropenes form aryldihalocyclopropenium salts with strong Lewis acids, which react with aromatic hydrocarbons to give, after hydrolysis, diarylcyclopropenones.
