Abstract
With the object of providing an auxilliary sequence to the acyloin cyclization, irradiation of a- diazo ketones derived from simple nine-, ten-and eleven-membeied rings have been studied. In solvent aqueous dioxane they all have been found to contract smoothly and in fair yield to the corresponding cycloalkylcarboxylic acids, which contain one ring member less than the starting diazo ketone.
