Abstract
Few references cite reactions of l-methyl-4-haloquinolinium salts. An unsuccessful attempt to oxidize 4, 7-dichloro-l-methylquinoliniurn iodide to the corresponding carbostyril has been reported. 1-Methyl-4-chloroquinolinium iodide has been used to alkylate sodiomalonitrile.* The 4-haloquinolium salts also find utility in structure determination in isocyanine dyes. 3 As one would expect, there is a profound difference in activity between the two substituents in ...
