Abstract

A one pot method for chloro-dehydroxylation of carbohydrates alcohol including sterically and electrically hindered ones in excellent yield was developed. The benzotriazole-1- sulfonate proposed to play a crucial role in the reaction medium, which undergoes substitution by chloride ion in the reaction medium to give only desired chloride derivative without the formation of side product.
