Abstract
Tertiary alcohols have been deoxygenated by using a variety of different routes.'p2 These include reduction of tertiary alcohol thioformates using trib~ tylstannane,~ acid-catalyzed hydrogenolysis using palladium or platinum catalysts in the presence of hydrogen: benzylic hydrogenolysis under dissolving metal conditions, 6 ionic deoxygenations using silanes and Lewis acids! and the use of transition-metal catalysts.'During the course of our ...
