Abstract
The behavior of certain diarylchloroethenes and ethanes with potassium amide in liquid ammonia has been reported in a previous paper.'These compounds are not affected by boiling alcoholic potassium hydroxide but are very rapidly changed with the loss of hydrochloric acid by potassium amide in liquid ammonia to the corresponding tolanes.
