Abstract

The base catalyzed aldol condensation of acetone and benzaldehyde, as well as two substituted benzaldehydes, has been reinvestigated in both the formation and cleavage directions. Microscopic rate and equilibrium constants have been deduced from the experimental data in a fashion consistent with the rigorously correct integrated rate law.
