Abstract

Trialkyl phosphites undergo an uncatalyzed alcohol exchange reaction when heated with aliphatic alcohols to yield mixtures of tertiary phosphites containing different alkyl groups. The scope of this reaction was investigated and a probable mechanism for the reaction postulated. The yields of the mono-and ditransesterified trialkyl phosphites were found to be dependent on the ratio of alcohol to phosphite employed. The results of this study indicate ...
