Abstract

Optically active 3-pyrrolin-2-ones have been shown to be important chiral synthons for the preparation of a variety of biologically active compounds. These fivemembered ring lactams have successfully been used in routes to various alkaloids1 and are suitable precursors for unusual γ-amino acids such as statine and its analogues. 2 There are also many examples of pyrrolinonecontaining natural products with interesting pharmacological activities. ...
