Abstract
CH2+ CH4+ 2CHs or CHz 4 CHp+ CZHI and these processes must each have an activation energy of less than 12 Cal. in order to account for the absence of methylene radicals. Since the reaction of the radicals with ether4 has an activation energy of approximately 15 Cal., the analogous reaction with methane probably has a higher activation energy and we feel therefore that reaction (1) probably represents the first step in the thermal decomposition ...
