Abstract
Abstract Benzoin condensation reactions of 2-thiophenecarboxaldehydes and furfurals have been reexamined with catalysts such as potassium cyanide, cyanide-resin, and a thiazolium salt. 2-Thiophenecarboxaldehydes gave both thenoins and thenils while furfurals gave only furoins. Possible routes which might lead to formation of thenils were investigated.
