Abstract

Materials. Baker and Adamson benzoic acid was twice recrystallied from water. The alkyl substituted benzoic acids were prepared by hypobromite oxidation of the corresponding ketones, lO the melting points of the pursed acids being as follows: 3, 5-diethyl, 129-129.5"; 3, 5dimethyl, 171.5-172.5'; 3, 4, btrimethyl, 220.5-221.5'; 3, 4, 5-triethyl, 142-143'; Pnitro, 242". The water and ethanol each were refluxed and distilled, and the distillates stored ...
