Abstract

If the recently suggested1 mechanism for the acetoacetic ester condensation is valid, it seemed that such an ester as ethylene dimalonic ester,(I, R= R'= H), should undergo the condensation, with the elimination of alcohol, to produce the tricarbethoxycyclopentanone
