Abstract
Thioketenes, which are useful building blocks in the syntheses of heterocycles? are generally unstable compounds which tend to dimerize to l, &dithietanes or polymerize." Introduction of bulky or strongly electron withdrawing groups adjacent to the thioketene functionality has a pronounced stabilizing effect, and such thioketene derivatives can often be distilled with little decompositi~ n.~~~
