Abstract

Photoreaction of acyclic and cyclic saturated ketones in methanol in the presence of TiC14 afforded 1, Zdiols as the main products. The effect of the substituents on the stereochemical course of the photoreaction was examined with substituted cyclohexanones. Further, the present reaction was applied for the synthesis of a pheromone, frontalin.
