Abstract: 1, Z-Di (hydroxymethy1) cyclooctatetraene and 2, 4, 6, 8-cyclooctatetraene-l, 2- dicarboxylic acid have been synthesized by the copolymerization of acetylene with 2-butyne- 1, 4-diol diacetate and with dimethyl acetylenedicarboxylate, respectively. The structures of the products were related to the known 1, 2-dimethylcyclooctane.
