Abstract: The techniques previously used to explore the effects of steric strains in strained homomorphs were applied to exoand endo-norbornyl derivatives in order to examine the importance of steric effects in the behavior of those derivatives. The solvolysis of dimethyl (ena 'o-2-norbornyl) carbinyl p-nitrobenzoate proceeds 18 times faster than the exo isomer.
