(5) Formation of the product was first checked by incubating [2-14C] barbituric acid with cold D-ribose 5-phosphate and monitoring the radioactivity which migrated with an R, of 0.7 on a descending mode paper chromatograph (in contrast to the R, of 0.39 for barbituric acid)(see ref 2).
