Abstract

Conclusion We have demonstrated that a qantitative scale of chloride ion binding energies for a wide variety of Br~ nsted acids has been established. The variation of chloride-binding energies with gas-phase acidities has shown that chloride binds protic substrates with far more electrostatic character than does the fluoride ion.
