Abstract
An ongoing synthetic project required access to substituted 4, 4-dimethyl-1, 2, 3, 4- tetrahydroisoquinolines as the core ring structure for a potential drug analog. We recently reported an approach to tetrahydronaphthalenes1 via Amberlyst 15 R-promoted cyclization of 5-aryl-2-methyl-2-pentanol derivatives and hoped to extend our method2 to the preparation of this heterocyclic system.
