Abstract
Along this line, we anticipated that quinols bearing an alkyne unit 6 would rearrange to either 7 or 8, setting the stage for the subsequent intramolecular cyclization to provide 5- or 6-hydroxybenzofuran (Scheme 2). Since both types of substitution patterns are frequently found in a number of natural products and pharmaceuticals, we decided to explore the feasibility of this strategy.
