Abstract The plot of rate constants vs. pH for the dehydration step of the reaction between furfural and 5-nitrofurfural with hydroxylamine, N-methylhydroxylamine, and O- methylhydroxylamine, shows two regions corresponding to the oxonium ion-catalyzed and spontaneous dehydration.
