Abstract

The remarkable success of pentafluorophenyl esters in peptide chemistry2 prompted us to examine the potential application of esters of this type in acylation reactions beyond the scope of peptide chemistry. We are now reporting pentafluorophenyl acetate3s4 (1) as a new, highly reactive acetylating agent, useful for acetylation of N and 0 functions under mild conditions, with outstanding selectivity toward the former.
