Abstract
The earliest report by Gallagher3 described the formation of (benzy1azo) benzene (la) from nitrosobenzene and benzylamine in alcohol. However, subsequent study by Su-PhNO+ RNHZ-+ PhN= NR+ Hz0 la, R= PhCHz lb, R= CH3 IC, R= CH3CH2 Id, R= CH3CHzCH2 le, R= CH3CH2CH2CH2 zuki and Weisburger2 failed to isolate any (pheny1azo) alkanes (1) from similar reactions.
