Abstract

It is shown that α, α-dimethoxybenzylsilanes thermally rearrange to give methoxysilanes and phenylmethoxycarbene; the latter species has been trapped by a variety of reagents. The rearrangement involves retention of configuration at an asymmetric silicon center. While α, α-
