Abstract
Summary Carbanions derived from ethyl acetoacetate, acetylacetone, and alkyl nitro-compounds add to C-2 of quinizarin and its 5-hydroxy-derivative. ... IN previous work1 we have shown that Marschalk (aldol) reaction of Zeuco-5-hydroxyquinizarin led, under appropriate conditions, to either predominant C-2 or C-3 alkylation.
