Abstract

The first synthesis of resveratrol with identification of the synthetic material by comparison with the natural product was reported in 1941 by Späth and Kromp. 1e This synthesis was indeed based on a report of Takaoka 2 who isolated resveratrol from roots of Veratrum grandifluorum.
