Abstract

View all references The advantages of the direct methylene transfer for the formation of α-methylene ketones are the availability of the starting materials and the fact that this is a one pot reaction. The reactions are not regiospecific and highly sensitive to the more acidic α hydrogen of the carbonyl group. The reaction has been applied to cyclic and acyclic ketones and extended to the synthesis of vinyl ketones, α-methylene aldehydes, esters and lactones.
