Abstract
The cleavage of certain ketones by alkali with the formation of acids is well known for aromatic,'aralkyl, 2 and activated ketones such as &keto acids. Relatively little work has been done with simple aliphatic ketones. This paper reports the results of an investigation of the nature of the products formed when cyclohexanone and one of its 2-substituted derivatives are treated with molten alkali.
