Abstract

Abstract 1, 2-Bis (trimethylsiloxy) cyclobutenes undergo facile autoxidative ring contraction yielding 1-trimethylsiloxycyclopropane carboxylic acid trimethylsilyl esters as major products. The results are discussed in terms of a mechanism involving electron transfer and intermediate formation of dioxiranes.
