Abstract
As part of our continuing efforts to study the mechanism of deoxy sugar biosynthesis at the enzymatic level,'it has been necessary for us to develop a general strategy for the synthesis of stereospecifically labeled deoxy sugars. 2 Reviewing the literature, we have found that hydrazines can be oxidized to the corresponding halides with defined stereochemistry by a variety of haloreagents, such as iodine, bromine, N-iodosuccinimide, N-bromosuccinimide ...
