Abstract
The initial observation evolved from our efforts to examine a Peterson-style olefination as shown in Figure 1, path A. Surprisingly, none of the expected enoate was observed. The mass spectrum and elemental analysis indicated a molecular formula of C 17 H 20 O 2 Si. The infrared spectrum showed no carbonyl peaks.
