Abstract

The reaction of I with phenols occurred readily in chloroform solution in the absence of a catalyst. The reaction did not appear to be subject to steric hindrance, since 2, 6- diallylphenol, 2, 6-diisopropylphenol, and 2, 6-di-tert-butylphenol gave satisfactory derivatives under these conditions. Hydroquinone and resorcinol reacted satisfactorily, but phloroglucinol gave a mixture of two products whose structures have not been determined ...
