Abstract
DFP [5,5-dimethyl-3-(2-propoxy)-4-(4-methanesulfonylphenyl)-2(5H)-furanone] 1, one of the most selective cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibitors recently discovered by Merck, 1 belongs to the 3,4-disubstituted furanone class of compounds that includes rofecoxib 2 2 (Fig. 1).
