Abstract

Papers from this Laboratory3 have described the condensation of aromatic and unsaturated aliphatic alcohols with aromatic hydrocarbons and phenols by means of anhydrous aluminum chloride. These experiments indicated that unsaturation of the alpha-carbon atom, whether it be double bonded or a member of the benzene ring favors condensation.
