The aldol condensation method described previously for preparing@-hydroxy esters from esters and ketones or aldehydes by means of lithium amide has been adapted to the synthesis of N, N-dialkyl-@-hydroxyamides from N, N-dialkylamides and ketones by employing the appropriate lithium dialkylamide.
