Abstract

Introduction Many claims for the existence of optically stable carbanions have appeared in the literature. In nearly all cases, subsequent work has shown these reports to be in error It had been reported that 2-nitrobutane3 and 2-nitrooctane4 gave, on treatment with base, optically active salts.
